If you own a Grizzly G0704 Benchtop milling machine, you know full well how frustrating changing collets/tooling can be... mainly due to the way it's setup, with that little hole in the quill/shaft, where you're suppose to insert that straight "tool" that comes with the machine, to keep it from rotating while you loosen the draw bolt..... and it never works.

Another good machine to consider is the Grizzly G0704 with not as great at drilling as other models. The Erie Tools ETD-SM-MILL is the best buy for money, as you get great features at the lower price. The last two, the Klutch 2706S009 and the Proxxon 37110, are disappointing units, having problems with vibration and lacking many important features.

Like the mini-mill, this mill has a plastic gear drive which works OK but is noisy. I will be replacing the gears with an aftermarket belt drive I am waiting for. One needs to have a drill chuck on R8 arbor, a set of R8 collets, mill vise (Kurt type recommended), and clamping kit to make use of this mill.

It's a decent mill for the price, but with the induction motor, it's for LIGHT duty only! Anything larger they about a 1/4" end mill, or a 1" face mill is over taxing the machine. I use mine primarily for folder work, and/or guard slotting. Personally, I have two mills, the G0704, and a large floor model Grizzly.

What are your thoughts out there between an X3 mill v. a Grizzly (BF20) G0704. It seems that weight-wise, they are in the same category. With the 0704 you get the digital height adjustment and the stand, but pay less, is there that much of a quality increase in the X3 styles, namely the G0463.
